Banksy -- the invisible Bristol-based tagger artist that fetches $100,000 for his public tagging, not to mention the millions his art commands in auctions -- has a new show in New York City. Banksy's October 2013 residency, titled "Better Out Than In", is an art display not only limited to walls, but also prevalent on trucks, cars and doors. Some of the art is loaded with subliminal current political messages. For example, the car and wall creation in the LES is a scene from a 2007 Baghdad raid.
My favorite installations are the tagged and stuffed trucks driving around random parts of the Meat Packing District and other areas of New York city. The stuffed animal heads coming out of the meat delivery truck is a much more blatant message.
Garden of Eden in a truck? Yes -- complete with waterfall, greenery, and live audio via his website.
Tagging, high-end street art, graffiti; however one would like to label Banksy, he still remains a talented enigma both to art collectors and the general public. As graffitti and tagging is a competitive and somewhat American gang-rooted medium, it's surprising that a Welshman's tagging can remain an expensive exception.
