Trending: Bauhuas and constructivist art movements -- exaggerated jackets, cinched waists, and sheer filmy dresses and tops. It's performance meets RTW.

Trending: Woman of the land -- long enveloping silhouettes. It's Flintstones meets Medieval woman. (J.W. Anderson was hired by LVMH is the new head of design for Loewe.)

 

SIMONE ROCHA

Trending: Rebelious Elizabethan -- crystal harnessing, cocooning outerwear, oversized ruffles, and her signature poufy skirts.

 

KTZ

Trending: lslamic art -- mosaic-like embroidery, touches of fur, with black and white patterns in modern oversized silhouettes.

 

CENTRAL SAINT MARTINS M.A. STUDENT SHOW

Trending: Hand–hewn embellishments and oversized silouettes from this year's L'Oréal prize winners. Ondrej Adamek featured large, cloud-like volumes. Michael Power created 3-D effects and tribal configurations.

Wes Anderson's Latest Film Makes a Grand Entrance in Paris

PARIS, France – France’s most popular tourist destination is about to open another hotel – except this one’s on the screen, not the streets. On February 20, Wes Anderson’s latest film The Grand Budapest Hotel will premiere in Paris with a group of guests as impressive and diverse as the film’s cast – including a distinguished pastry chef, a perfumer, a concierge company, and jewelry designers.

Philippe Conticini, a renowned chef and pastry chef, and head of Pâtisserie des Rêves in Paris.

What they’ll be bringing to the premiere: impeccable concierge service – which is incredibly appropriate for the premiere of a film about a concierge.

Macon & Lesquoy, jewelry designers.
What they’ll be bringing to the premiere: colorful handmade accessories, with designs inspired by the film.

Nose (& Mark Buxton), a French boutique perfumer where Buxton is co-founder.
What they’ll be bringing to the premiere: a new perfume, L’Air de Panache, inspired by the film’s main character

LFW FW14 shows: Trending Red

  London Fashion week FW14 collections have a common trend thus far: scarlet red.  Although the British RTW designers are known to not follow diluted trends instead they are known to maintain and evolve their signature conceptual collections.

   An interesting cross section of RTW designers have interpreted the red trend via knits, high tech fabrics, applique, patchwork and variations of silk for FW 14, rather than variations of wool. Standout collections: Jonathan Saunders, Peter Pilotto, John Rocha, Thomas Tait and Erdem.

NYFW F/W14: Karen Walker backstage POV

    Karen Walker presented a collection based on her fascination with " suffragettes and how they subverted the tradition concept of beauty".  The feminine edge to her Tomboy silhouettes is a signature style she has mastered. Fresh girly looks in somewhat masculine fabrics, slightly utilitarian intermixed with pop art details in fabric prints created a strong eclectic line up.
