Nicolas Ghesquiere's Fall 2015 collection for Louis Vuitton embodies all the reasons why one must understand the deeper subtle nuances of RTW design. Instead of showing in the new Louis Vuitton Foundation structure, why not build a geodesic dome venue on the LV foundation's back lawn? Play the Grimes as the music for the show? The location statement was a precursor to the satirically designed collection. Future chic details mixed with his 1970's references seen in his last two collections have in fact been seen in other RTW designers collections for FW15. Nicolas may have made the 70's era trend du jour, but he is also is a master of nonchalance meets directional fashion.
Notable show guests, included actresses Catherine Deneuve, Jennifer Connelly, brand ambassador Michelle Williams, Dianna Agron, Chloe Grace Moretz, Selena Gomez and the dapper Belgian singer Stromae.
For FW15 instead of referencing the 70's, Ghesquière created a collection in which high-tech fabric and luxe materials combined to create a sexy understated cool clothing that still maintained a casual nonchalance.
The show opened Freja Beja Erichsen in a big statement coat, a fluffy white sheepskin and an even bigger statement bag. A Louis Vuitton box bag ; a mini trunk with the model’s initials engraved on it.
The collection started to un layer itself with exits in flattering ribbed knitwear separates, with sculptural hemlines , fitted lingerie-inspired silk dresses and tops with dramatic black obtuse triangles highlighting the breast zone and the animal-printed silhouettes splashed with sequins. Finally the brands famous Damier print was referenced in a fine tweed. This collection was a strong place holder of references that reflect the future. It was refreshing to see the new bag shapes in forms of mini trunks, fluffy sheepskin dyed with an animal print , studded clutches, and the bowling bag in all that will sit nicely in ones collection of Louis Vuitton iconic bags.
