The new documentary film; 'Dior and I' is a riveting and yet humble chronicle of Dior couture in which director Frederic Tcheng follows Raf Simons while he creates his first collection for Dior.
Not only was this his first collection for the iconic fashion house but his first couture collection. What is extraordinary about this film is it explores not only the team and craftsmanship it takes to create couture , but the humility that Raf eluded while in the process of connecting with team. Most of the production team/ ateliers have been creating couture and RTW for over 30 years at Dior, they are as much the focus of the film as is Raf. The sensitive and artistic portrayal of Raf Simons and the incredible team is a refreshing approach to fashion documentary film making. I attended a premiere screening in LA and had the pleasure of Frederic's Q&A after the film, which he described in great depth his process working with Raf Simons . I can now feel comfortable saying; there is humility and talent in the highest level of fashion design, well it's rare but it does exist.
